aftermarket seat or pad?

My wife just learned to ride this past summar. She has ridden a few times to work (about 20 miles) and complains bitterly that the seat is not very comfortable. Having ridden the bike as well I fully sympathize with her (I ride a Honda Shadow Spirit 1100 with a Mustang Seat).

Are there any aftermarket seats available? should I try a less expensive gel or foam cushion first? where do I get these things for a Savage?
